Cognizant of the need to provide the highest standard in radiation treatment, the Radiation Therapy Center has always been consistent in giving accurate tumor doses to cancer patients, ensuring that the surrounding normal tissues are spared of unnecessary doses. The delivery of accurate tumor doses requires highly skilled and qualified radiation therapy personnel, a high-energy radiation source, and a lot of other support equipment. The Center's medical linear accelerator is capable of delivering 6 Megavoltage of high energy external radiation beam which is more penetrating compared to the Cobalt-60 teletherapy units. The facility is equipped with a Universal x-ray simulator used for actual tumor localization, which will generate a simulator film providing the clinician a beam eye view of the target coverage and identifying the surrounding normal tissues that require shielding blocks. The simulator film is digitized and processed using a computer planning system where the distribution of radiation doses within the irradiated field is generated for evaluation. The Center has an established quality assurance program and radiation dosimetry test tools for calibration of radiation output.
