The objective of the center is to bring state-of-the-art medical technology in cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular surgery from the United States to Cebu's doorstep for more convenient access for the people of the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Headed by Dr. Philip S. Chua, a well-known Filipino cardiac surgeon in the United States, the Center is a full-service program supplied by the medical, surgical, nursing, laboratory, radiology, nephrology, pulmonary, neurology, and rehabilitation medicine departments. The pleasant ambience and well-appointed facility has a cardiac surgery office, a comfortable air-conditioned family waiting room, a non-invasive laboratory, two catheterization laboratories with cine viewing room, a large cardiovascular operating room, two CVU post-op recovery rooms, and five cardiac ICU private rooms. The Center is equipped with complete cardiovascular monitoring system with online arterial blood gas, electrolyte and blood count instant analyzer, and modern operating equipment including a heart-lung machine, intraaortic balloon pump for heart support, vigilance cardiac output monitor, and a cardiac transport monitor with defibrillator. The CCU and the CVU-RR has a new Agilent cardiac monitors attached to a flat-screened central monitor, the first in Cebu. The cardiac surgeons were among the firsts in the country to perform Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB) surgery, called the "beating heart surgery", the latest advancement in cardiac surgery.
