The Department is an academic-affiliated, subspecialty oriented resource for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye, orbit, and neuro-ophthalmic disorders. Advanced medical and surgical therapy of all conditions affecting the anterior and posterior segments, ocular adnexae, orbit, and optic nerve is the primary focus. Diagnostic and therapeutic services include A & B scan ultrasonography; ophthalmic photography Fluorescin angiography; corneal topography; Humphrey visual field testing; cataract surgery (including Phaco-emulsification); corneal surgery and corneal transplantation; LASIK or PRK (laser vision correction); glaucoma consultation and treatment including Argon and Diode laser procedures, antimetabolite filtration surgery and shunt; treatment of neuroophthalmic disorders; orbit and oculo-plastic surgery; evaluation and repair of ocular injuries; complete evaluation for patients with uveitis; fluorescin photography and argon, krypton, and dye lasers for treatment of diabetic' retinopathy; treatment of complications following implantation of intra-ocular lens during cataract surgery; laser treatment for retinal and vitreous problems; vitrectomy; and emergency eye care.

The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment such as the Humphrey Computerized a Visual Field Analyzer, top-of-the-line automated perimeter for the detection and monitoring of glaucoma and other diseases of the eye and brain; Topcon Retina Camera TRC50X, an advanced imaging system capable of performing fluorescein angiography for the study of retinal blood vessels, tumors, and swelling; Zeiss 532 Diode Laser for treatment of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy; Seiss YAG Laser for the treatment of glaucoma and capsular fibrosis; IRIDEX Oculight SLx with Tri-mode, the most advanced, compact laser photocoagulator system available which allows a wide variety of ophthalmic applications such as transpupillary retinal photocoagulation for pathologies in the far periphery of the retina, endophotocoagulation during vitrectomy, transscleral cyclophotocoagulation for uncontrolled glaucoma, and transscleral retinal photocoagulation for retinal detachment repair; Alcon A-Scan (OcuScan) for the measurement of corneal thickness and for obtaining axial length measurements for intra-ocular calculations; and Zeiss IOLMaster, a machine that revolutionized both the biometry procedure and refractive cataract surgery outcomes as the first non-contact all-in-one instrument.
